HERMIDGETS — “LIKE MOTHS”
New single — September 18, 2026
Hermidgets returns on September 18, 2026, with “Like Moths,” a new dark synth-pop single that explores the absolute, almost ecstatic surrender to a destructive relationship.
Moving beyond conventional portrayals of emotional dependency, the track delves into darker psychological territory, depicting a devotion so total that it becomes inseparable from the desire for self-annihilation. The relationship is not presented simply as a struggle between victim and aggressor, but as a mutually destructive bond in which surrender itself becomes a form of desire.
The lyrics inhabit a state of radical vulnerability and submission, where the protagonist actively embraces their own dissolution:
“Learning how to pray for the pleasure of having nothing.”
The line captures the paradox at the heart of the song: the loss of everything is no longer something to fear, but something to be desired. Possession, identity and personal boundaries gradually lose their meaning, leaving only the strange pleasure of complete surrender.
This culminates in the song’s central image:
“And you will always be the trace that I will follow like moths attracted to the fire.”
The moth is drawn toward the flame despite its destructive nature, becoming a metaphor for the irresistible pull of a relationship that both people know may consume them. The fire is not merely an external threat: it is precisely what the protagonist continues to seek. Attraction and destruction become indistinguishable.
The accompanying music video translates this idea into a physical process of disappearance. In a stark close-up performance, Hermidgets’ face covered and transformed with white modelling clay, gradually erasing the features beneath the material.
The visual concept emerged independently from the song, but ultimately revealed a striking correspondence with its themes. The physical disappearance of the face becomes a literal representation of the dissolution of identity under the weight of a consuming bond.
The performance draws explicit inspiration from the unsettling body language and facial transformations of French artist Olivier de Sagazan, whose work similarly explores the instability of identity through the physical manipulation of the human form.
For Hermidgets, however, the obscured face also extends beyond the themes of the song. The deliberate erasure of the artist’s features reinforces one of the project’s central artistic principles: the refusal of a conventional artist persona and the pursuit of anonymity as an integral part of the work itself.
“Like Moths” was mixed by Matteo Sandri and mastered by Giovanni Versari.
The single will be released on September 18, 2026, as another step toward Hermidgets’ third album, currently expected in early 2027.
